Parents of Sheffield! There are plenty of reasons to try martial arts this school year.
Whether you are looking for a way to help your child build some confidence and self-esteem, or for a positive and healthy outlet to burn some energy.
Mixed martial arts is a full-bodied sport that not only focuses on physical fitness but also builds positive personal values.
At Castle Martial Arts, we believe every child can unlock their potential and help children of any age develop in these 10 key areas:
- Confidence and Self-esteem
Nearly every issue can be solved by building self-confidence and self-esteem! Mastering new skills, overcoming challenges and earning new belts through positive praise is a powerful way to do just that.
- Discipline and Focus
Following a structured learning format of regular classes and colour belt gradings will help build discipline. The concentration required to learn and master new techniques will help enhance a child’s focus. This in turn can help children focus elsewhere which can help lead to better grades at school.
- Stress Relief and Emotional Regulation
As children develop and grow, they need to learn ways to manage stress and regulate their emotions. Martial arts is a healthy outlet to burn off pent-up energy through physical fitness and a great way to turn negative emotions into positive ones through constant achievements, positive praise and lots of fun!
- Improved Health and Fitness
Through regular attendance in our classes, children get loads of exercise which will develop their strength, flexibility and endurance. This will improve your child’s health and fitness which can help with weight control, muscle tone and all the positive mental health benefits we have mentioned above.
- Motor Skills Development
Through the wide-ranged curriculum that we teach, children will work on large body movements and smaller, finer detailed movements. This will help enhance a child’s motor skills and hand-eye coordination.
- Problem-Solving Skills
During our sparing or grappling sessions, children work on their strategic thinking and tactical abilities. They have to think on their feet and decide which sequence of movements will work in specific conditions. These exercises can be very helpful in a real-world self-defence situation.
- Respect and Courtesy
Teamwork is at the core of everything we do and respect and courtesy play a vital role in that. We encourage children to support each other, cheer each other on and help one another in any way we can. We also expect students to bow to each other in respect when they have worked together in class.
- Conflict Resolution and Anti-Bullying
At Castle we want our children to be safe in any setting. Firstly, we teach our children how to diffuse a situation without violence through respect and self-discipline. But if a situation escalates then they can protect themselves if needed. When it comes to bullying at school we give children the empowerment, character and courage to stand up for themselves and also others.
- Healthy Lifestyle Habits and Values
When you regularly do something, it becomes a habit. Regularly taking part in our martial arts classes will encourage a habit of physical exercise and activity into adulthood. Our focus on personal values of honesty, courtesy, respect, gratitude and many more will last a lifetime.
- Goal Setting and Achievement
Through the progression of the different belts, children will learn the importance of setting and achieving their goals. They will learn how commitment and perseverance through hard work and dedication will help them achieve success in the future. At Castle, we love to celebrate successes within and outside the academy!
What our Parents have to say
You’ve heard from us, now let’s see what our parents have to say about how our classes have benefited their children.
Ally Revill: “My daughter has been training at Castle for the last 4 years and is working towards her second degree blackbelt. The staff are friendly firm and fair, the curriculum is as much about teaching good values and being a good person and having respect as it is about learning to defend yourself. The staff have a great way with their students both young and older. I would thoroughly recommend Castle Martial arts and their instructors at any of the 3 sites.”
Peter Merrett: “My two sons, aged six and eight love their martial arts classes at Castle Martial Arts. They’ve now been going for two years to Abbeydale Road twice a week, and have just started going to the XMA class at Intake. They love their instructor Mr Haggerty who is an exceptionally good teacher. I feel it’s a very well rounded curriculum which challenges them physically and mentally and encourages them to learn from each other and understand their own physicality. I’d highly recommend Castle Martial Arts.”

Robbie Doszczeczko: ““Ive taken my boy to Castle Martial arts for over 3 years now. And to see him grow and develop new skills has been fantastic. He’s grown in confidence and to watch him achieve getting new belts has been amazing.”
Sarah Kirk: ““My little boy started at Castle Martial arts 10 months ago when he was 3 and has come on in leaps and bounds. He loves his instructors and has so much respect for them. Castle martial arts has helped improve his concentration, coordination and ability to remember and follow instructions. A surprise benefit has been his improved social skills; he works with children and adults of all ages in class and this has helped him grow into a confident 4 year old.”
Hayley Johnson: ““Would highly recommend this martial arts studio. They are amazing with my 4 additional needs children. My children have come on so much since attending. My children are extremely happy and enjoy all the positive praise they recieve at each class. It’s great value for money and you are made to feel welcome from the first time you walk through the door.”
